From where I stood, the sky was split above me-

one side light, clear, sunshine practically dripping down.

And then the other, so stormy

it was nearly black.

No blending, no grey, no shifting from one to the other,

you could simply step one lung’s length to the side

and you were under a different sky.

The split stretched straight above my head, just me

and a pack of birds, wild and rabid, darting

from light to dark like they were trying to sew

the two halves whole.
