Fasting Girls, pt. 2
TWO.
Eva walking through the snow. Her dress trails behind her leaving a path like a slug. Nothing but snow and a long clothing line, hung with brightly-colored garments. She walks parallel to it, brushing her hand against the clothes.
The clothing line ends abruptly and is replaced by a strange-looking house. There are few defining characteristics about the house, other than its intricacy and solitariness.
Amos (30) opens the door.
AMOS (calling out to her from the doorway): Eva!
Eva walks calmly to the door and dips inside, dragging snow behind her.
Inside, they walk together through the house, which is a sort of temple of curiosities: locks of hair, bugs on pins, a prosthetic arm made out of iron, bones, antlers, goose feathers, snake vertebrae, a frog in a jar. Eva walks a few paces behind Amos, looking, touching.
They reach the end of a long hallway. He leans in and kisses her formally. She keeps her eyes open.
They stand in silence for a few moments, listening.
EVA: The wind…
Outside there’s the whistling of wind through bare trees.
